Thomas Rudden '19 was recently awarded the Kiwanis Scholarship for his outstanding academic career, service life, leadership and representing the mission of Fairfield Prep.In his life of service Thomas has taken up a central role in the Prep community’s efforts to provide an open forum for and to establish open support to gay and non-binary students. His advocacy led to the launch of Prep’s REIGNS organization (Respect Education and Inclusion of Gay and Non Binary Students).

Thomas’ self-awareness and sensitivity to others is beyond the norm for a young person, further highlighted by his serving as a camp counselor every summer of his Prep years at a camp for children with special needs.

In his academic life Thomas has achieved a 3.9 GPA while taking a number of AP and honors level courses. He has taken on leading roles in Prep Players productions and he has been a four year musician in Prep’s Symphonic Orchestra.

"His devotion to exploring his talents and interests and living them fully has defined Thomas in his Prep years and this has given him a genuine sense of direction," said Dean of Guidance John Hanrahan.

Thomas will continue his studies and service to others at the University of Southern California.
