Congratulations to Ryan Carroll ’21, named Mr. Shamrock Runner-Up Scholarship honoree in the 2021 Greater Bridgeport St. Patrick’s Day Celebration. In the classroom, Ryan is an honor student and a member of the National Honor Society who excels in studies and shares his academic talents with others through Prep’s Peer Tutor program. Fully invested in life at Prep, Ryan is a valuable member of the school’s Baseball and Cross Country teams and is active in Prep’s Irish Cultural Club. As a teammate and club member he has shown the ability to be a leader, a young man whose talents and work ethic are observed and emulated.
Although his achievements in and out of the classroom are many, Ryan is most known for his leadership as a four-year member of Prep Student Government and now President of the Senior Class. In this role, Ryan is often called upon to address the student body and to speak at school events. He has also organized campus events for students and represented his Prep brothers at meetings with faculty in order to improve the students’ experiences. Ryan continually rises to whatever challenge is in front of him and has also committed his energies to Prep’s Campus Ministry program where he serves as Eucharist Minister and retreat leader.
In his life on and off campus Ryan embraces being a “man for others.” He intrinsically enjoys helping peers with homework and volunteers for school events willingly. Beyond Prep, Ryan and his family started the Challenger baseball program in Trumbull. Challenger allows mentally and physically disabled children to play baseball every Sunday during the spring and summer. Being on the field with the kids is when Ryan is happiest, and he has a gift for encouraging and lifting people’s spirits. Ryan proudly represents his Irish heritage, as his family members were originally fishermen from Galway. Best of luck to Ryan with his college opportunities for the future.
