Prep recognizes black Catholic figures in February

In honor of Black History Month, the Fairfield Prep Campus Ministry Team will highlight important black Catholic historical figures in American history.

Black Catholics have made massive contributions to our faith in the United States, with many individuals entering religious life as priests and nuns.

Each week, Prep will post a story about each historical figure on our website in the Campus Ministry section.

The first entry is about the Rev. Augustus Tolton (1854-1897), who conquered almost insurmountable odds and is now regarded as the very first black Roman Catholic priest in the United States.
