Prep senior Matt McManus was awarded the Fairfield Police Union Scholarship in the name of Judge Daniel Caruso. The fund was created to honor the life work of Judge Caruso who passed away unexpectedly in February 2018. Caruso, who served as Fairfield Probate Judge, was an advocate for anyone and everyone who needed help in the community. Caruso embodied the spirit of community and civic duty, always putting service above self. He was a man of strong faith and believed in always helping those in need. Due to the generosity of the Fairfield Police Union Scholarship Board Judge Caruso’s legacy is celebrated each year with a scholarship award.
Matt McManus is a true "Man for Others." He served as president of the White Ribbon Club at Fairfield Prep over the past two years, for which he took the lead in organizing the school "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" event to bring awareness to sexualized violence toward women and girls. Matt has also volunteered at the day care center at the Caroline House in Bridgeport and coached a 4th grade basketball team at Wakeman Boys and Girls Club. In Prep's Campus Ministry, he served as a Kairos retreat leader, working for months to plan, pray, and prepare to facilitate a group of peers and share his life of faith with others. Beyond service, Matt has been an active member of the school community as a member of the Environmental Club, Debate Team, Stock Market Club, JV Football and Varsity Track. A summa cum laude student, he will be attending Boston College in the fall.
