Senior Hugh Hutchinson was recognized as the recipient of an annual scholarship awarded by the Fairfield Rotary Club Foundation for his dedication to the Rotary Motto, "Service Above Self." 

Hugh is a Summa Cum Laude honor student, taking the hardest course of studies available. He is a member of the National Honor Society and serves as a peer tutor. One of Hugh’s most admirable traits is his commitment to his academic studies, his swimming career, and his beliefs and ideas. He is a recipient of the Yale Book Award and the prestigious St. Edmund Campion, S.J., Award at graduation, which recognizes academic excellence in support of faith, goodness and justice in the world.

Hugh’s intellectual curiosity and moral compass are his guides in his extracurricular life. He likes a challenge and is willing to go “all in” to tackle it. At Prep, he has participated in groups that allow him to grow, particularly in the areas of social justice and progressive movements (e.g., Ethics Bowl, Mental Health Awareness, Environmental Club and German Exchange program). Hugh has generously donated his time with organizations such as the Special Olympics and the Kennedy Center where he helps individuals with special needs. He also volunteers at the Merton House where he and his family have served lunches over the past seven years, and with St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Fairfield, to assist in building projects for low-income families.

Hugh has been a four-year member of the Varsity Swimming Team where he served as captain, helped lead the team to an SCC Championship his senior year, and was recognized as All-State in 2021 and All-SCC in 2022. He also qualified for the YMCA national Championships. He was honored with the Connecticut CAS-CIAC Scholar Athlete award as the Fairfield Prep senior recipient. Hugh will be attending Middlebury College, where he will continue swimming at the collegiate level.
