Fairfield Prep welcomes new faculty and staff
Fairfield Prep welcomes a number of new faces for the 2024-25 academic year. The school year kicks off with new teachers and staff.

Charles Auray '19

Mr. Charles Auray

Mr. Charles Auray ’19 holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and Multimedia Journalism from Loyola University Chicago. During his time at Loyola, Mr. Auray served for more than three years as a lead instructor of K-5 after-school programs in the Chicago Public School System. In his last semester of college, Mr. Auray held a news internship at Nextar/News Nation in Chicago.

After graduating Loyola in 2023, he went on to work as a news/digital producer at Tegna/ABC News in Moline, Ill., where he produced more than 400 broadcasts for the “Good Morning Quad Cities” program.

Mr. Auray returns to Fairfield Prep as a member of the school’s Alumni Service Corps.

 


Emily Bennett

Mrs. Emily Bennett

Ms. Emily Bennett has served as an educator for more than 15 years in both public and independent schools. Most recently, Ms. Bennett served as math teacher at Rye Country Day School, where she also developed and taught a robotics competition team and robotics engineering course.

Prior to Rye Country Day, Ms. Bennett taught math at West Nottingham Academy, where she also served as assistant athletic director. Her teaching experience goes back further, having taught math at Granby Memorial High School, Middletown High School and Lincoln High School.

Ms. Bennett holds a Master of Science in math education from the University of Wisconsin-Stout, a Teaching Certification from Providence College and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Studio Art from the University of Vermont. 

Ms. Bennett will teach Math.   


Matia Berti

Maria Berti

Mrs. Matia Berti has served in education since 2016 as a teacher and in athletics.Mrs. Berti taught for seven years in the Trumbull Public School System. While completing coursework for her administrative certification, she served as intern in the Trumbull High School Athletic Department, assisting the Director of Athletics in a variety of areas including managing the school’s sports programs, overseeing facilities, and initiating student, parent, and administrative programs and projects to better serve the community.

During her time in Trumbull, Mrs. Berti served as the Head Coach of the cheerleading program at Trumbull High School, and currently serves as the Head Coach of the cheerleading program at Staples High School. In our intercollegiate Athletic world, Mrs. Berti has also served as a competitive cheerleading judge for the CIAC. 

Mrs. Berti is Prep’s new Athletics Operations Assistant.


Rev. Brendan Coffey, S.J.

Rev. Brendan Coffey S.J.

Rev. Brendan Coffey, S.J., entered the Society of Jesus in 2015 and was ordained a Jesuit priest on June 8, 2024. Fr. Coffey is rejoining the Fairfield Prep family. From 2019 to 2021, Fr. Coffey served as Jesuit regent at Prep, teaching theology and English and serving as cross country coach.

In the three-year interim between his departure and return to Prep, Fr. Coffey continued his formation at the Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University, in preparation for ordination.

In addition to his studies at Santa Clara, Fr. Coffey conducted apostolic work with parish middle school and high school faith formation programs. Fr. Coffey holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Philosophy from Fordham University, a Master of Philosophy in Irish Writing from Trinity College Dublin, a Master of Arts in Catholic Theology from Fordham and a Licentiate in Sacred Theology and Master of Theology in Christian Spirituality from Santa Clara. 

Fr. Coffey will teach Theology and English.


Bryan Cross

Bryan Cross

Bryan Cross joined Fairfield Prep during the 2023-24 school year serving as a substitute for a teacher who was out on leave. This year, we welcome Mr. Cross as a full-time member of the Prep faculty. Prior to embarking on his vocation as an educator, Mr. Cross worked for more than two decades in the field of quantitative finance.

He held several administrative roles in asset management and investment banking. Mr. Cross holds a BA in Economics and an MS in Financial Mathematics from the University of Chicago, and is working towards an MA in Secondary Education-Mathematics from the Teachers College at Columbia University. 

Mr. Cross will teach Math.

 


Elijah Langston

Mr. Elijah Langston

Elijah Langston has been an educator and coach since 2018 at schools in Fairfield County and Florida. Most recently, Mr. Langston served as Dean of Students and Administrative Consultant at the Covenant School, a newly opened all-boys Jesuit middle school in Fairfield.

Prior to the Covenant School, he served as a humanities teacher at Miami Country Day School in Miami, Fla., a second-grade classroom teacher at Adam J. Lewis Academy in Bridgeport and an elementary school teacher and coach at Greenwich Country Day School.

Mr. Langston attended Fairfield Prep before transferring to Kingswood Oxford School where he completed his high school education. He holds a BA in Law, Jurisprudence and Social Thought from Amherst College. 

Mr. Langston is Prep’s new assistant dean for the Class of 2028.


Benjamin Pulsifer ’20

Mr. Benjamin Pulsifer

Mr. Benjamin Pulsifer ’20 holds a Bachelor of Science in Business and Finance and a minor in Political Science from the University of Connecticut. He also served on the executive board of the Alpha Delta Phi Fraternity at UConn.

During his undergraduate studies, Mr. Pulsifer gained professional experience in several areas, including serving as a finance intern for Wilton Re, a circulation manager at UConn’s newspaper The Daily Campus, an investment analyst intern at Bulukutu Tea and an equity team intern at Atalanta Sosnoff Capital. 

Mr. Pulsifer is a member of Fairfield Prep’s Alumni Service Corps

 


Carrie Veigas

Carrie Veigas

Ms. Carrie Veigas has served as a certified physics teacher at the high school level for more than 14 years. Ms. Veigas most recently taught AP and Honors Physics at Staples High School, and she also implemented curriculum for two new courses in astronomy.

Prior to Staples, Ms. Veigas held teaching positions at Masuk High School in Monroe and Westwood High School in Westwood, Mass., teaching college-bound physics and Honors and AP physics, respectively. She also coached indoor and outdoor track at Westwood High School.

Ms. Veigas holds a BA in Physics from Connecticut College and a Master of Education in Secondary Education with a focus on physics from Boston College. 

Ms. Veigas will teach physics at Prep.
