Fairfield Prep welcomes Edward Gormbley '95 as Commencement Speaker

Fairfield Prep is pleased to welcome Mr. Edward Z. Gormbley '95 as the guest speaker at Prep’s 82nd Commencement Exercises, to be held on Friday, May 24, 2024, at 10 a.m. in the Leo D. Mahoney Arena, Fairfield University. Ed Gormbley was born in Bridgeport, Conn., and attended St. Augustine Catholic elementary school. After graduating from Fairfield Prep in 1995, he earned a BA from Boston University, an MBA from Columbia Business School, and an advanced real estate certificate from Harvard Business School.

While attending Prep, Ed joined Prep’s early SEED Diversity program, founded by Dr. Donna Andrade, which offered him the academic, social, and financial support to achieve at a high level. Ed served as a member of Prep’s Board of Governors for seven years, most recently as the Vice Chairman, lending his time and expertise to help steer Fairfield Prep into a successful future. A generous benefactor, Ed consistently invests in Prep and its students, with the goal of giving young men the transformative opportunity to grow and succeed as he did.

Ed Gormbley is an entrepreneur with big-company skills and a start-up spirit. He started three companies before graduating from college. He then spent a decade in the fertile training ground of General Electric as a corporate finance professional and private equity investor, from which 3i (a FTSE-100 company) recruited him to be CFO of its North American division. From there he founded Workforce Partners, a vertically integrated real estate company that serves the median income household with apartments under the IVE brand and the boutique hotels, The Circle and Hi-Ho.

Despite his tremendous financial success and living on both the West and East Coasts, Ed always finds the time to give back to the school he loves in many ways. His down-to-earth personality, combined with his work ethic and friendly, generous spirit are contagious. Ed is married to Catherine O’Donnell and they have three children. We thank Ed Gormbley for his devotion to Fairfield Prep as a Jesuit, Catholic school of excellence.
