Prep senior Danny DeRose was awarded the Fairfield Police Union Scholarship in the name of Judge Daniel Caruso. The fund was created to honor the life work of Judge Caruso who passed away unexpectedly in February 2018. Caruso, who served as Fairfield Probate Judge, was an advocate for anyone and everyone who needed help in the community. Caruso embodied the spirit of community and civic duty, always putting service above self. He was a man of strong faith and believed in always helping those in need. Due to the generosity of the Fairfield Police Union Scholarship Board Judge Caruso’s legacy is celebrated each year with a scholarship award.

Danny DeRose is a true "Man for Others"; his greatest strength is his selflessness and desire to serve those most in need. During his four years at Prep, Danny served as a camp counselor at Fairfield University for the Brooklyn Jesuit leadership camp that serves underprivileged youth. He spent three weeks living full-time on campus, assisting middle school students with academics as a teaching assistant and facilitating sports and social activities. During the school year, Danny was heavily involved in Prep's Mission & Ministry team. He served as Co-Director of the Freshman Retreat, organizing a 2-day, overnight program for over 200 students. He also attended a Kairos retreat and later served as a Kairos leader as well. As a member of the Cardinal Key Society, Danny volunteered at open houses, Grandparents Day, placement tests, and graduation. Lastly, Danny volunteered with Club Woofgang over the past two years, an organization that works with adults with learning differences. Danny participated in the Model United Nations club all four years and played on Prep's CT State Champion Rugby team. At the Senior Awards Night, Danny was honored with the St. John Francis Regis, S.J., Campus Ministry Award for outstanding dedication and leadership in the promotion of the Prep retreat program. He will attend St. Joseph University in the fall.
