The State Delegates representing the town of Fairfield in the General Assembly delivered an official citation to James Murphy '24 during a brief ceremony in the Fairfield Prep quad on June 26, 2023. 

The delegates included state Sen. Tony Hwang, R-28, state Reps. Jennifer Leeper, D-132, Cristin McCarthy Vahey, D-133, and Sarah Keith, D-134. Calling James a "terrific young man," the state lawmakers praised him for raising more than $13,000 donations for the Southern Connecticut Storm Special Hockey Team. 

“(This achievement) indicates a sense of leadership and a community commitment in which Fairfield Prep espouses and articulates so effectively among all of your students athletes,” Hwang said. 

"You’ve inspired a lot people with what you’ve done and they’re going to take action too and it’s just a phenomenal example coming out of our institutions and our community," Leeper said. 

“Thank you for the work you’ve done," Keitt said. "I am feeling very good about our country’s future when we have young people like you.”

“Here in Fairfield and at Fairfield Prep we have such privilege and so many amazing supports," Vahey said. "You've taken that support and turned it into something for others... it’s an amazing example for all of us.”
