Prep celebrates Ash Wednesday Mass
On Wednesday, March 1, 2017, the Prep community celebrated its Ash Wednesday Liturgy. Ash Wednesday opens Lent, a season of fasting and prayer. Fr. Stockdale, S.J., was the principal celebrant and Fr. Simisky, S.J., was the homilist. The wearing of ashes on the head symbolize the dust from which God made us. Fr. Simisky, S.J., in his homily spoke about the words that are said by the minister as the ashes are applied to a person's forehead. He speaks the words: "Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return." Fr. Simisky, S.J., also emphasized that even though these words may in fact be difficult for us to hear, the ashes are a symbol that God is love. We always need to remember that.
