Our 2018-19 academic year kicks off with some new faces at Fairfield Prep. We welcomed five new teachers and two new staff members.

Our 2018-19 academic year kicks off with some new faces at Fairfield Prep. We welcomed five new teachers and two new staff members.

Michael Barston — Mike rejoins Prep as Admissions Counselor and parent of an alumnus. He received a BA from Georgetown University and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School.

Mike comes to us from CME Group, where he was Executive Director, Relationship Manager. He held a similar role before that at Credit Suisse. He is active in the community, having served as board member, manager and coach for the Darien Little League, as well as having coached basketball at the YMCA in Darien.

Daniel Horstmann — Dan assumes the role of Music Teacher after having been Admissions Counselor last year. He graduated with a BA in Communications and Music, with minors in Entrepreneurship and Catholic Studies.

Dan has extensive musical experience at Fairfield University, St. Joseph Church in Shelton, Red Parlor Records, and as Assistant Producer and Stage Manager for the Norwalk SONO Summer Music Series. He will teach General Music, Select Choir, Symphonic Band, Symphonic Orchestra, and Wind Ensemble.

John Meyers — John is a 2013 graduate of Fairfield Prep.  He received his Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Connecticut.

John was a Math Teaching Assistant at Prep from December 2013 through May 2014 and an Assistant Coach for Prep's football and rugby teams. John will teach Algebra 1 and Geometry.

Tracey Owens — Tracey received her Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Michigan and her Masters in Arts in Secondary Education from Fairfield University.

Tracey has taught Algebra 1, Geometry and Algebra 2 at Darien, Greenwich, and Stamford High Schools. Prior to that, she was the Director of Production Finance at MSNBC. Tracey will teach Algebra 2 and Pre-Calculus.

Kurt Thiemann — Kurt received his A.B. in English from Princeton University, where he was also a member of the varsity volleyball team and a residential advisor.

Kurt did a summer study abroad program with Princeton in Beijing in China. He is proficient in Mandarin. Kurt comes to us from Regis Jesuit High School Boys Division where he thought ninth grade English. Kurt will teach English II and British Writers.

Donald Wolanin, Ph.D. — Don received his BS and MA in Chemistry from the University of Chicago and his PhD degree in Chemistry from Harvard University. He completed his doctoral studies at Stamford University, while matriculating as a Traveling Scholar at Harvard University. Currently Donald is an adjunct professor teaching Chemistry at Fairfield University.

Prior to Fairfield, he worked as Director of Research at Bayer Corporation and Senior Research Chemist at ICI Pharmaceuticals Group. Donald will teach Chemistry to juniors and seniors.


Craig Jones — Craig serves as Assistant to the Director of Student Discipline, monitoring student conduct after school. He began with Prep last spring and also works at Fairfield University as Ambassador/Security.

Craig is a graduate of Norwalk Community Technical College. He recently retired from the Stratford Fire Department as a Firefighter and Emergency Medical Responder with extensive training and certification in safety and rescue procedures.
