Nic Girard '12 and Matt Connelly '12 honored as SCC Scholar Leaders

The 2012 Southern Connecticut Conference Scholar Leader recognition banquet was held on March 26 in New Haven. Seniors Nic Girard and Matt Connelly were recognized among forty-four outstanding students from the Southern Connecticut Conference who have demonstrated outstanding scholarship and leadership in their respective school and external communities.
Nicolas F. Girard
Accomplishments: Nic is a Summa Cum Laude student with a cumulative GPA of 4.1 and a member of the National Honor Society from sophomore through senior years. He is an AP Scholar and recipient of the Dartmouth College Book Award. Nic is Editor in Chief of the Hearthstone yearbook, and a member of the Debate Club, French Honor Society, and Select Concert Choir. He has made a significant commitment to community service at The Caroline House, Wakeman Boys and Girls Club, and the Academy of Boys and Girls Club.
Matthew F. Connelly
Accomplishments: Matt has earned academic honors at Fairfield Prep. As Captain of the Swimming & Diving Team, he helped lead the team to an unprecedented perfect season, winning the championships in the SCC (Southern Connecticut Conference), Class LL, and the State Open. He is President and announcer of the MSG Varsity Club, which produces live and recorded video coverage of school sports and major events. Matt has been highly active in St. Vincent's SWIM Across the Sound, raising thousands of dollars yearly for providing cancer education, screening and prevention programs at low- or no-cost for the elderly and underserved. He volunteers regularly at the Bridgeport YMCA where he teaches children to swim.
