MIDDLETOWN -- For the third straight season, the Fairfield Prep swim team finished second at the Class LL championships Wednesday at Wesleyan. The Jesuits finished with 555 points. Greenwich, which won five events, won the title with 664 points. It was the 18th straight season and 38th time in 39 years Greenwich has won the Class LL crown.

Westhill/Stamford placed a strong third (474), followed by Glastonbury (454), Xavier (413.50), Ridgefield (399.50), Staples (298) and Norwalk/McMahon (220). "We had some excellent swims today," longtime Fairfield Prep coach Bruce Jaffe said. "A lot of our guys swam better in their second event, which was nice to see. I think we can go faster in the medley relay and 200 freestyle relay at the Open. It should be a great Open meet with a lot of great swims along the way."

Leading the way for the Jesuits was Andrew Golankiewicz, who won the 100 backstroke (52.12) and was fifth in the 200 IM (1:57.87); Ed Becker, who took second in the 200 freestyle (1:41.39) and 100 butterfly (51.16); Kristof Toth, who was second in the 100 freestyle (47.36) and sixth in the 50 freestyle (22.37); Tyler Pramer, who was third in the 100 butterfly (52.32); and Sean Greer, who took sixth in the 500 freestyle (4:47.64).

Fairfield Prep also did well in the relays, winning the 200 freestyle relay in a time of 1:27.83, taking second in the 400 freestyle relay (3:10.21) and third in the 200 medley relay (1:40.20). "We knew Fairfield Prep would be close to us, so we all had to swim well in every event and get as many points as we could," Greenwich's Eric Minowitz said.
