Senior pitcher Stone helps Fairfield Prep past Hall in state tournament
FAIRFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) — Fairfield Prep baseball advanced in the state tournament Wednesday. The Jesuits defeated Hall in a close one, 3-2.
A big reason for the win was the guy the sent to the mound. Senior right-hander Kevin Stone did it with the glove and bat, knocking in a run with a first-inning double.
Stone is a four-year varsity player for Prep, which is very rare. He’s been getting some looks from big league scouts. He can hit 90 on the radar gun and has a 6-5 frame that he’ll grow in to.
Next year, the honors student will attend Harvard, and is already preparing for the Ivy League work load.
“It’s amazing. It’s kind of surreal still. I’m getting my summer workouts and writing placement exams all this summer, so it’s starting to hit me a little bit,” said Stone. “I’ve had a couple of scouts come to games and while that’s crazy to think about, it would take a significant draft selection, signing bonus, and what not to pull me away from Harvard.”
His team is back in action Thursday against Stamford.
