Student Dress Code
2017 - 2018
Students are expected to dress in a manner that is neat, presentable and professional throughout the school day (including semester exams). The following dress code will be enforced from 8:30 AM to 2:35 PM in all areas of the Prep campus, except for the weight room and gymnasium.
Shoes: Fairfield Prep students must wear dress shoes or casual dress shoes to school. Shoes and socks that rise above the ankles are required to be worn at all times. Shoes should be constructed of leather and not canvas or any other material. Sneakers, moccasins, sandals, slippers or shoes without backs are not permitted without prior approval by the Nurse and/or the Director of Student Discipline. Athletic footwear including any shoe with a sneaker sole, or a sole similar to the Sperry CVO sole – the same as most Vans – is not permitted.
Boots: Students may wear winter boots, or work boots, when there is inclement weather (i.e. snow, sleet or ice). Boots must be neat, fully laced up, and tucked under the legs of the pants.
Pants: Students must wear neat and clean dress style trousers. Jeans, cargo, baggy, frayed or oversized pants are not permitted.
Belts: Students are required to wear a belt.
Dress shirts: Students are required wear a collar dress shirt (either long or short sleeves) that is properly buttoned and tucked inside the pant at all times. Hawaiian-styled shirts are not dress shirts.
Ties: Student are required to wear a tie, or bowtie.
Sweaters: Students may wear a neat, clean sweater, vest, quarter zip or dress jacket over the dress shirt and tie. The tie must be exposed at the neck.
Outerwear: Outwear such as jackets, coats, sweatshirts and any type of hooded clothing are not permitted to be worn during school hours.
Hats: No caps or hats are to be worn inside the school building.
Shaving: Students’ faces are to be shaven clean, daily if necessary. (Beards, mustaches goatees are not permitted). A haircut is not to be a distraction, such as outlandish cuts, colored hair, etc.
Piercings: Earrings, body piercing of any kind, exposed medallions or necklaces, and belt chains are not permitted. Any tattoos must be covered, including at school event.
Backpacks: One (1) Backpack or string pack is permitted to be carried throughout the school day. It must be stored during class in a designated spot as required by a teacher.
**Warm Weather: A school sanctioned Prep Logo polo shirt may take the place of a dress shirt when announced by the Director of Student Discipline. All other aspects of the dress code remain in effect.
On the occasion of a Spirit Day, College Day, etc., part of the dress code may be suspended. Students will be notified by announcement and/or email prior to such an event.
Any deviation from these standards due to medical reasons requires a dated slip from the school nurse. Any unauthorized deviation from the dress code will subject a student to disciplinary action by any member of the faculty or administration. Our dress code requires students to dress neatly and professionally. Therefore, wrinkled clothing or a disheveled appearance will not be tolerated. The Director of Student Discipline remains the final judge.
