Fairfield College Preparatory School, a Jesuit, Catholic institution, is committed to fostering an inclusive community that celebrates the unique gifts and diversity of all its students. The school's mission emphasizes forming young men of intellectual competence who possess the conscience to make wise decisions, a compassion for others, and a commitment to justice in our global society.

In alignment with this mission, Fairfield Prep has implemented several initiatives.

Schoolwide Cultural Celebrations

Hispanic Heritage Month

The school’s Hispanic Heritage Month celebration honors the rich history, traditions, and contributions of Hispanic and Latinx cultures. The event features student-led discussions, cultural presentations, and traditional cuisine, providing an immersive and educational experience for the entire community. Through these activities, students gain a deeper appreciation for Hispanic heritage while fostering inclusivity, cultural awareness, and meaningful dialogue.

Cinco de Mayo Celebration

The Cinco de Mayo celebration, organized by Mrs. Rosales and the ASPIRA Cultural Club, was a vibrant reflection of our Jesuit values of community and cultural understanding. Students and faculty came together to share delicious food, enjoy lively music, and engage in meaningful exchanges that deepened our collective appreciation for Hispanic and Latinx heritage. The event provided an opportunity for learning, celebration, and connection, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated in making this celebration a success.

Black and African American Diaspora

The Black and African Diaspora celebration is an opportunity to honor and recognize the rich cultural, historical, and social contributions of Black communities worldwide. This event explores the diverse experiences of the African diaspora, promoting greater understanding and appreciation of African heritage. Through educational presentations, discussions, music, and art, the celebration fosters inclusivity, community engagement, and reflection on the impact of Black culture across the globe. It also serves as a platform for dialogue, encouraging students to learn, share, and connect in meaningful ways.

Holocaust Remembrance Day

The Prep community gathers to observe Holocaust Remembrance Day, a meaningful occasion to honor the millions who suffered during one of history’s darkest periods and to reflect on the profound lessons it offers us today. Students hear from guest speakers, participate in thoughtful discussions, and engage in a reflective luncheon. Through such shared experiences, students are reminded of the importance of vigilance and the commitment to the principle of “Never Again.”

Affinity Groups & Extracurriculars

African American Cultural Club (AACC)

The African American Cultural Club (AACC) is one of three organizations dedicated to promoting diversity and cultural awareness within the school community. While its focus is on issues relevant to African American culture, the club is open to students of all backgrounds, fostering inclusivity and integration within the SEED Program. Led by English teacher Ms. Jayne Penn, AACC has over 30 members and plays a key role in advancing cultural appreciation through initiatives such as the annual MLK ceremony. By providing a platform for dialogue, education, and community engagement, AACC strengthens the school's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

ASPIRA (Hispanic Cultural Club)

ASPIRA is committed to educating students of all backgrounds about the history, culture, and issues affecting the Latinx community both locally and globally. Led by World Language teacher Ms. Massiel Rosales, the organization fosters cultural awareness, advocacy, and inclusivity through discussions, events, and community engagement. ASPIRA provides a space for students to celebrate Latinx heritage, address social issues, and promote unity, empowering them to become informed and active members of a diverse society.

Asian American Cultural Club

The Asian American Cultural Club offers students an immersive experience in traditional Chinese culture through language, history, and interactive activities. Members have the opportunity to learn Mandarin, explore Chinese cinema, and engage in cultural games like Mah Jong. Led by International Student Advisor Mrs. Lina Gallinelli, the club promotes cross-cultural understanding and appreciation. A highlight of the year is the annual school-wide Chinese New Year celebration, which brings the community together to honor and experience the richness of Chinese traditions. Through its events and initiatives, the club fosters inclusivity, cultural exchange, and a deeper appreciation for Asian heritage.

REIGNS (Respect, Education, and Inclusion of Gay & Non-Binary Students)

REIGNS is a student-led organization committed to fostering a culture of diversity, inclusion, and respect within the school community. As one of three diversity-focused clubs within the SEED Program, REIGNS provides a safe and supportive space for students of all backgrounds to engage in meaningful discussions on LGBTQ+ issues, history, literature, and current events.

The club’s mission is to promote awareness, advocacy, and education while ensuring that all students, regardless of sexual orientation or gender expression, feel valued and respected. Through meetings, events, and initiatives, REIGNS encourages open dialogue, challenges stereotypes, and works to create a more inclusive and equitable school environment.

Led by English teacher Mrs. Megan Hoover and Theology Department Chair Mr. Kevin Kery, REIGNS plays a vital role in advancing the school’s commitment to diversity and social responsibility.

Jewish Affinity group

A Jewish Affinity Group can serve as a safe and supportive space for students to connect over shared cultural and religious experiences. It can provide opportunities to celebrate holidays, discuss Jewish identity, and engage in community service or educational activities. Through this group, students can foster friendships, explore traditions, and promote inclusivity within the school community. This club is led by the Director of Innovation Rinat Levy Cohn.
