The Prep Experience
Care of the Whole Boy
Cura personalis, that is, “Care of the whole person,” is a phrase mentioned almost every day at Fairfield Prep. As we strive to develop our students to be agents of positive change in the world, the adult community at Prep works each day to care for and form our students in all ways – inside and outside of the classroom, academically, spiritually, athletically, artistically, and more.
Over the last few years, Prep has invested in human capital to ensure we are able to deepen the Ignatian engagement of the whole person.
In daily interactions with our Jesuit-educated and mission-driven faculty and staff members, students are being challenged academically and pushed to think critically and creatively. But the lessons they are taught are about so much more–they are about how to be a positive and contributing member of society, and about how to act always in a way that is For Others.
Each day we are Ignited to walk the halls with our students and give them the opportunity to be their best.

Assistant Deans
Each Class has an Assistant Dean of Students who stays with the class from the moment they enter as Freshmen, to the moment they step across the stage at graduation. The relationships that form provide students with mentorship as they navigate the challenges of high school and adolescence in general. While discipline remains a part of the Dean's role, formation is at the heart of what they do.
School Counselors
Students are introduced to their School Counselor on day one at Prep, and that counselor remains with them throughout their time at Prep. School Counselors provide a safe, supportive space, mentorship, and guidance on class selection alongside College Counselors. They also develop and teach a school counseling curriculum focused on key academic, social, and emotional topics.
College Counselors
At the end of his freshman year, each Prep student is introduced to his College Counselor who will work with him from that point on to ensure that he has all he needs for the college search and decision process. Prep's college counselors form a relationship with their counselees so that they can guide them through high school course selections with a college focus. Additionally, this strong relationship allows our College Counselors the ability to guide the students to the "right fit" college to help ensure long-term success in and beyond the college years.
Coaches
At Fairfield Prep our athletics are an extension of the classroom. As such, our coaches are considered not just for their technical expertise and knowledge, but for their fit in a Jesuit educational institution. Nearly half of our coaches, at all levels, work inside the building as members of our faculty and staff. This makes it possible for the lessons in the classroom to extend out on to the playing surface, and vice-versa.
