Alumni Service Corps

Prep is proud to announce the creation of the Fairfield Prep Alumni Service Corps. The inaugural service corps will be open to Prep Alumni from the Class of 2017 or the Class of 2018.

The Alumni Service Corps is open to students of any major and students do not need teaching experience or a desire to teach. Fairfield Prep will work with Service Corps members to find a placement that best suits the needs of the Service Corps member and the school. Service Corps members will be welcome to participate in other offices in our school, such as Admissions, Advancement, Athletics, Business, Communications, Campus Ministry, Diversity, Guidance, Student Activities, etc. The Service Corps members will also be allowed to coach athletic teams.

Pres. Christian Cashman P'15, '23, extends an invitation to join the Fairfield Prep Alumni Service Corps:

Current Spanish teacher Sean Whalen participated in the Alumni Service Corps At Canisius High School, and shares his experience:

Toward the end of my senior year of college, I began to discern what my path in life would look like after I graduated. I knew where I wanted to end up but I felt that I needed more hands-on experience to get there. When I saw that my alma mater, fellow Jesuit institution Canisius High School in Buffalo NY, had the Alumni Service Corps, I knew that this program would be the perfect start to my professional career. During my time with ASC at Canisius, I was involved in many aspects of the school. I taught Spanish classes both on my own and with other faculty members, worked with Campus Ministry by preparing and leading the many retreats and immersion trips they hold each year, and even coached in their Volleyball program. Through all this involvement, I was able to work with my former teachers and coaches that mentored me in a whole new phase of my life. I was in the program with other members who graduated high school with me and being able to live in the same house together helped us build a community amongst ourselves as we navigated our new roles at the school. I owe so much to this program that truly helped me during one of the most pivotal points in my life.

Alumni Service Corps members will be provided with housing close to campus, a meal allowance during the week, and a modest stipend for their work. The members will also participate in retreat and immersion experiences sponsored by the Fairfield Prep Campus Ministry Office. Prep's maximum number of volunteers is four per year.

The duration of the program is ten months from the middle of August until the middle of June. Alumni Service Corps members are expected to be present in the building daily and should make themselves available to attend school events and functions on nights and weekends, as needed.
