Alumni Service Corps
Prep is now accepting applications to the Fairfield Prep Alumni Service Corps. Prep Alumi from the Class of 2019 and 2020 are invited to apply.
Will Short and Cole Simons, graduates of the Class of 2018, share their experience and reflection as members of the ASC.
Program Description
The Alumni Service Corps (ASC) offers alumni of Fairfield Prep who have recently graduated college the opportunity to return to their alma mater for a year-long service commitment as a staff member.
Alumni Service Corps members undertake many responsibilities which include, but not limited to, co-classroom teaching, coaching, leading retreats and immersion trips, and moderating clubs and activities.
Depending on the ASC member’s interests and background, involvement in the development, finance, and alumni offices are also possibilities.
Program Philosophy
ASC members will serve the needs of the school while obtaining personal and professional growth throughout a year of discernment during a critical time in their lives.
They are challenged to live in community, work hard, and partake in spiritual formation with a focus on community life in a school provided home. In this environment, they build a bond for a common cause to better themselves and the school that shaped who they are today.
Community Living
Created in 2022, the Alumni Service Corps is open to students of any major and students do not need teaching experience or a desire to teach. Alumni Service Corps members will be provided with housing close to campus, a meal allowance during the week, and a modest stipend for their work
The duration of the program is ten months from the middle of August until the middle of June. Alumni Service Corps members are expected to be present in the building daily and should make themselves available to attend school events and functions on nights and weekends, as needed.
From the ASC Director
"Toward the end of my senior year of college, I began to discern what my path in life would look like after I graduated. I knew where I wanted to end up but I felt that I needed more hands-on experience to get there. When I saw that my alma mater, fellow Jesuit institution Canisius High School in Buffalo NY, had the Alumni Service Corps, I knew that this program would be the perfect start to my professional career.
"During my time with ASC at Canisius, I was involved in many aspects of the school. I taught Spanish classes both on my own and with other faculty members, worked with Campus Ministry by preparing and leading the many retreats and immersion trips they hold each year, and even coached in their Volleyball program.
"Through all this involvement, I was able to work with my former teachers and coaches that mentored me in a whole new phase of my life. I was in the program with other members who graduated high school with me and being able to live in the same house together helped us build a community amongst ourselves as we navigated our new roles at the school.
"I owe so much to this program that truly helped me during one of the most pivotal points in my life."
