The Prep Entrance Exam

The HSPT Entrance Exam is a mandatory part of the application process at Fairfield Prep and makes up one of four criteria considered by the Admissions Committee. The following are the four criteria, each of which is weighted equally in the committee’s consideration: 

  • 7th & 8th Grade Transcripts
  • Entrance Exam Scores
  • Student Essay & Parent Statement
  • 8th Grade Teacher Recommendations

Fairfield Prep will offer the HSPT entrance exam on the following dates for the Class of 2029 (choose one):

  • Saturday October 26, 2024 at 8:15 a.m.
  • Saturday November 9, 2024 at 8:15 a.m.

Registration for the exam can be done through the applicant's admissions account, which can be created here.

*Fairfield Prep is a part of the Diocese of Bridgeport Testing Cooperative. An applicant who takes the test at Fairfield Prep, Notre Dame Fairfield, St. Joseph's, Immaculate, or Kolbe Cathedral can designate (during exam administration) to have his scores sent to up to three additional schools from the Cooperative. An applicant can only take the test once among the Cooperative schools.

What type of entrance exam does Prep use?

Fairfield Prep uses the The High School Placement Test (HSPT®) as the entrance exam during the admissions process.  The HSPT is a comprehensive placement test for eighth graders for placement in the ninth grade.

The test time is about 2 hours and 30 minutes.

The test structure is divided into 5 parts:

  • Quantitative Skills
  • Mathematics
  • Verbal Skills 
  • Language
  • Reading (Comprehensive and Vocabulary)
