Transportation
Fairfield Prep students come to our campus from more than fifty towns throughout Fairfield and New Haven counties. With students coming from as far west as Greenwich and beyond, from as far east as Madison, and as far north as Newtown, Bethel, Ridgefield, etc., Fairfield Prep's student body is geographically diverse. Our starting time of 8:40am affords students sufficient time to get to campus to start the school day on time.
COMMUTING BY TRAIN
For any student living within easy access to Metro-North Railroad, commuting by train is easy, quick and convenient. Each day approximately 200 Prep students commute by train. Commuting by train is also cost effective, as Metro-North has a very reasonable system of fares in place for monthly student commuter tickets. Students who commute from towns east of New Haven can take Shoreline East to Union Station where they can transfer to Metro-North to take the train to Fairfield.
Fairfield Prep provides shuttle bus transportation back and forth from campus to the Fairfield Railroad Station. The bus makes several runs between campus and the station in the morning and in the afternoon. Students who stay at Prep past the time of the last shuttle run may take the Fairfield University shuttle, which makes runs every hour on the hour from the Barone Campus Center well into the evening (it is also not an uncommon sight to see Prepsters walking the approximately one-mile distance from campus to the train station).
COMMUTING BY CAR POOL
For students who don't live within easy access to Metro-North carpooling is the preferred means of transportation. Prior to the beginning of the school year Prep publishes its Student Directory, which contains listings of students arranged alphabetically and by town. Since members of existing carpools need to replace graduating students every year, they eagerly await phone calls from incoming freshmen seeking spots in carpools.
TOWN OF FAIRFIELD BUSES
The Town of Fairfield provides busing to Fairfield residents who attend Fairfield Prep. The Housemaster's Office - Berchmans Hall publishes this information at the beginning of each school year.
PARENT-ARRANGED BUSING
Parent-arranged busing may be available in certain areas. Although Fairfield Prep will facilitate such arrangements by publishing pertinent information, Prep does not sponsor nor take responsibility for such arrangements, which are made and paid for solely by parents.
