Soccer beats Amity in PKs, advances to SCC Final!

WOODBRIDGE -- On the eve of its SCC semifinal against Fairfield Prep, defending league champion Amity planned to practice penalty kicks should the game finish in a draw after overtime. The Spartans knew firsthand how important the much-dreaded format can factor into the high school soccer playoffs, having won the 2008 SCC tournament thanks to the heroics of goalkeeper Stephen Sasso in penalties against Guilford. As it turned out, the sun set before Amity had a chance to practice penalties.

On Tuesday, second-seeded Amity found out how the other half lives in the penalty kick equation. Fairfield Prep freshman keeper William Steiner stopped the first three kicks from Amity, as the third-seeded Jesuits won 3-0 after the teams played out to an evenly matched 1-1 draw.
