Asian Studies students witness dismantling of mandala

On October 14, six students from Mr. Sacerdote’s sophomore Asian Studies class traveled to Trinity College in Hartford to witness the dismantling of the sacred mandala that had been created by a group of Tibetan Buddhist nuns from the Keydong Nunnery in Kathmandu, Nepal over the course of one month. A sand painting used for prayer, contemplation and healing in the Buddhist tradition, once completed the mandala is destroyed, its sands poured into water (in this case the Connecticut River) as a blessing for the world.
